Nova Scotia Privacy Commissioner cites DFA in violation of law, failing to comply with FOIPOP Act

The following Review Report is related to a FOIPOP access to information request filed with regards to “Open Pen FinFish Farms”, the report contains a review and response from the Privacy Commissioner to the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

“There is no question that this is a concerning situation. The Department (DFA) failed to respond to the applicant and continues to be in violation of the law months after the decision was due...”.

“When access to information laws are strong and effective, citizens benefit, and our democracy thrives. But when public bodies, such as the Department in this case, completely ignore their obligation to respond in a timely fashion, this should raise red flags for citizens."

- Trisha Ralph, Information and Privacy Commissioner for Nova Scotia
