"This detection of ISAv was identified through the Provincial Government Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture’s species specific aquatic animal health surveillance program.
According to Mowi, the detection occurred in two cages containing a total of approximately 165,000 fish. The marine site is comprised of eight cages containing a total population of approximately 742,711 fish. These fish are an average of approximately 1 kilogram in size.
The company will remove the fish from the affected cages using approved and biosecure Standard Operating Procedures.
A statement put out by Mowi says, 'The company is taking all responsible steps under the oversight of the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture, and is following government approved policies.' "
