Professor William Lahey, author of the independent review of Nova Scotia's forest practices, talking about the need to take N.S. ecological forest policies into practice, and a paradigm shift to keep forests and the forestry sector viable in the future.
We think that Lahey's points in this discussion can so clearly apply to aquaculture and open-net pen salmon farms as well as forestry and clear-cutting. Speaking specifically about forestry, as he is in this interview, he recommends that citizens make their government aware of their concerns by writing to them. He also says that ecological forestry must become the goal of government, regardless of the political party in leadership. We must demand this for aquaculture, as well.
None of the work has resulted in much change on the ground if any - Professor William Lahey
