Canadian Salmon Farmers hit back at transparency accusations | Fish Focus, uk

Updated: Sep 24, 2019

Their response to continued salmon escapes seems to be - to add more groups to their Aquaculture Liaison Containment Comittee?

Quoted from the UK article: "The Atlantic Canada Fish Farmers Association has hit back at accusations by the Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) about the transparency of reporting farmed salmon escapes and the potential risks involved with escapes.

A statement from the Association said:  “Statements made by the Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) about the transparency of reporting farmed salmon escapes and the potential risks involved with escapes cannot go unchallenged."

The Atlantic Canada Fish Farmers Association points out that New Brunswick farming companies voluntarily report escapes to Provincial regulators who in turn notify many groups (including ASF) who are members of a NB Aquaculture Containment Liaison Group.

......."The NB Aquaculture Containment Liaison Committee communicates regularly. This week, the group discussed adding other groups on a case-by-case basis that may wish to be informed of an escape for a specific reason.”
